Julia Colley
My interest in photography was nurtured by my father who was an artist. He helped me appreciate how important light is, and how it can dramatically change the mood and definition of a picture.
I really enjoy using photography to capture memories of family, friends, pets, my adventures abroad and general everyday events. My main interests are in natural history, architecture, flora and fauna, travel, textures and
colours.
My aim is to use a limited amount of 'gear' and minimal digital enhancement on my general snaps, though recently I have taken an interest in producing an abstract version of some of my originals and seem to be naturally drawn to bright garish colours often found in poster art.
To assist the progression from 35mm film to digital, I attended a 2-day, Introduction to Photography Course with Manchester Academy of Photography in 2010 in order to expand my knowledge and help me understand my camera a bit better. My aims for the future are to enlarge and frame some images, and develop my interest and knowledge in stained glass and produce a body of work.
I moved to the High Peak in 2006 and have been encouraged by friends to turn some of my images into cards.
